I discovered, to my joy, you can run Grand Theft Auto under Linux using WINE! All you have to do is install Wine (get it from Wine HQ), compile it, optionally install it (or fudge the linker search path) and then edit your ~/.wine/config file and enable ‘DX mode’. Without this, the game runs, but you can’t control it.
Then release all your pent-up agression 🙂
The fact you can run GTA using WINE will help me on an idea I have.
Also, my ADSL connection went down earlier on. I managed to grab the pppd error log, and this is what the end showed:
Jan 27 17:44:12 kermit pppd: Hangup (SIGHUP) Jan 27 17:44:12 kermit pppd: Modem hangup Jan 27 17:44:14 kermit pppd: Connection terminated. Jan 27 17:44:14 kermit pppd: Connect time 2656.8 minutes. Jan 27 17:44:14 kermit pppd: Sent 143416011 bytes, received 1436938309 bytes
Not bad… in 44 hours I downloaded ~1.4 Gig and uploaded ~143 meg. That’s more than several months of modem usage in just under two days! It’s amazing how quickly updates of XFree86 come down the wire, and how nicely “broadband-optimised” Realmedia streams look 🙂
