Allotment Seeds

Some of the seeds have germinated and we have several small seedlings growing.

From the seeds we planted in February the following are now growing

  • Lettuce
  • Spring onion
  • Cress
  • Tomatoes
  • Sweetcorn

There’s a bit of mould growing on the sticks and in a couple of the seed cells, so the propagator lids have come off. Our conservatory should be warm enough, and hopefully the cats won’t decide to try eating the seedlings!

We’ve also planted some herbs in little pots

These came in bags with incredibly dry soil. The herb pot’s soil was so dry it didn’t mix with water, even after soaking it for a while the middle of the pot was bone dry. I ended up mixing the soil with some water in a saucepan by hand. The small herb “garden” thing comes with equally useless soil pellets. The instructions say to use just one per pot, but really it takes three.
